i'm only going to explain this once, and i'm going to do it enough detail that you guys should probably stop bugging josh or tony or robbi or whoever else you think ran nuts on kb about all of this.
chris (who is quite possibly the only guy aside from josh kennedy dumb/insane enough to pour thousands of dollars and countless hours of work into maintaining something for you turds to use for whatever jackassed purposes you could think of) got burned out on running the site about a year ago, to the extent that he hadn't even bothered looking at the site since about may of last year. he was dropping about 150 a month out of pocket on host maintenance and rack rental and such, and i believe everson was contributing about the same. to put that in simpler terms, that's about what i spend on staples (food, cigarettes, weed, energy drinks) combined in the course of a single month.
anyway, he was running himself into debt, as he's going to school full-time and doesn't have the ability to work a job that allows him to not live off of credit cards. someone at the roxy contacted him about doing some "outreach" work through the site (shorthand for scaring kids into accepting jesus), and he asked for money. apparently, their pockets are deep enough that they offered him cash for the whole deal. i don't have my finger on the exact dollar amount, but i'm guessing it's hovering somewhere around 7-8 thousand dollars.
so now we're here. on a temporary messageboard. my administrator account on kitsapbands was suspended last night right before i deleted my account, and when i re-registered and posted a thread, i was banned. tony had a similar thing happen, but i believe that it was more due to his questionable "choice" in lifestyle. everyone else has been demodded, and i'm not exactly sure who else has been banned, aside from me, tony, vern, and blake.
suffice it to say, there's not a whole lot that can be done at this point. i haven't lived in bremerton in years, and i know almost nothing about the arcana involving hosting or maintaining code on a website as multi-faceted as kitsapbands. what i would like to see, however, is a site that is a lot more streamlined and easier to use than kitsapbands. i'm not sure how much this will cost or what exactly it will entail, but i'm sure that between the half-dozen or so of us who have been running things on kb for the past eight years should be able to come up with something within the next few months.
until then, sit tight. we have this site, and that's about all we're going to be able to have. i am the sole administrator, and there are other moderators. you know what the general rules are in terms of behavior (sexist/racist/homophobic nonsense, blah de blah de blah), and you know how to conduct yourselves reasonably. too much anti-roxy stuff and i'm going to start deleting things, though.
it sucks this happened, but it's honestly sort of awesome that people are actually starting to pull together and try and make some good of the situation. be well.
